In the last week or so we have learned about the respiratory system and all of its complexities along

with what can go wrong with the respiratory system. One of the amazing things about learning about the respiratory system was I got to learn more about Asthma. I have asthma and have had for my whole life. I had RSV when I was one years old, and had to use nebulizers for so long as a kid. My asthma has definitely gotten better over the years. I have always been somewhat informed about asthma but doing an actual simulation lab over the respiratory system and having a patient with an asthma attack was different than what I would expect. It was harder to treat the patient in the simulation lab because this time I wasn't the one with the asthma issues. It was just not as easy to do, which was not what I was expecting. My asthma experience did come into play, however, when we were trying to figure out why Ann, our patient, I was able to look at her inhaler and see that it was expired because I knew from experience that an expired inhaler would not work. It was really cool to see something from my life making connections in this class.
